The Ainsley House turf is set for a vibrant transformation, aiming to create a dynamic garden space that honors its historic legacy. This revitalized area will not only serve the community year-round but also be available for special events, enhancing the house's status as a community icon.
By maximizing the usability of this space, we can generate vital revenue opportunities that will support the long-term sustainability of the Campbell Museums, ongoing preservation efforts, and dynamic educational programming. Together, we can ensure that this historical treasure continues to thrive for generations to come.

How you can help
Maintaining over 3,600 square feet of turf is a significant financial burden for the City of Campbell, with annual costs exceeding $37,000. This expense covers weekly labor and fuel for maintenance, reseeding, fertilization, and aeration (on average, four times a year), irrigation control data plans, and the cost of using a staggering 100,000 gallons each year.
The beautiful garden should be a focal point of Campbell and a desired venue for special events and community gatherings, but is only utilized a few times a year. Unfortunately, the turf suffers from major issues such as sogginess and poor drainage, burn marks from the sun, and damage from crows and other animals searching for grubs. In addition, the turf is not fully accessible to people with mobility issues, limiting who can enjoy the space. The current state of the Ainsley House garden, with its vast square footage of grass, is not effective or sustainable in its current state.
Staff has concluded that the best way forward is to convert the turf areas of the garden to permeable pavers and stones that allow the garden to be used year-round, as well as to help bring much-needed revenue to the Ainsley House, which in turn will help preserve the House and the historic legacy of the Ainsley Family.
