How the West (of San Jose) Was Won (and Lost)
A look at how the Santa Clara Valley property changed hands through early historic eras and some stories of those early Campbell area pioneers.
with Nick Garcia
Join us for a fascinating journey through the early history of the Santa Clara Valley and discover how the land that became Campbell changed hands over time. From the Ohlone people and Spanish explorers to Mexican Californios, early settlers, farmers, and orchardists, this presentation explores the people, policies, and events that shaped the region.
Featuring stories of notable local figures—including members of the De Anza Party, Juan Galindo, Alexander Forbes, William Campbell, Zeri Hamilton, and Henry Gray.
Nick will also examine how land grants, surveying, and property sales transformed the valley. Historic artifacts, including William Campbell’s survey chains, help bring these stories of settlement to life.
