About Dr. Bell
Lindsay John Bell, Ph.D.
Bio
Dr. Bell is a historian and professor at De Anza College who specializes in U.S. History, specifically the cultural impact of sports on the development of American identity. He has presented papers on baseball’s influence on America’s hero ethos at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York, at the NINE Spring Training Conference in Tempe, Arizona, and for the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). Dr. Bell is currently working on his manuscript The Commissioner’s Crusade: Kenesaw Mountain Landis, Baseball, and Remaking American Manhood, 1917 – 1947 that will be published through the University of Illinois Press.
Dr. Bell received his Ph.D. in History from Iowa State University in May of 2020, and he believes that history is much more than a subject taught in school. History is the doorway into uncovering more about our world, ourselves, and what makes us human.
